Overview

The aims of this programme are to provide students with a solid foundation in nursing and a range of general education, and to equip students with professional knowledge and competent skills as specified in Nursing Council of Hong Kong for enrolled nurses (EN).

  • To equip students to achieve the core competencies of an Enrolled Nurse (General) to provide clients of all ages and their families with safe, effective and ethical care; and

  • To prepare students to develop the generic skills to be well-rounded nurses, such as self-directed learning and enquiry-based skills, in support of their professional development as a nurse. 


Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILO)

Upon the completion of the programme, graduates are expected:

  • PILO 1 To acquire theoretical knowledge and competencies needed for providing safe, caring, and ethical nursing care within the scope of an EN in hospital and community care.

  • PILO 2 To apply the knowledge and skills to promote health, prevent diseases and provide health education to individuals, families, and the community;

  • PILO 3 To equip with necessary life and social sciences knowledge and generic skills, including languages, communication, and interpersonal relationship.

  • PILO 4 To demonstrate personal attributes of caring, as well as reasoning, problem solving and critical thinking necessary for quality patient care and teamwork.

  • PILO 5 To acquire the ability to foster one’s own professional and personal development.


Vocational and Academic Pathways

  • Two-year full-time (four semesters and four clinical practicums) programme

  • A total of 24 courses (85 credits):
    5 Generic courses (15 credits)
    3 Life and Social Sciences courses (9 credits)
    12 Specialized Nursing courses (41 credits)
    4 Clinical Practicums (20 credits)

  • There are 14 weeks in each of the study block and 11 weeks in each clinical practicum (min of 1600 hours)

  • After students have been introduced to the theoretical knowledge and have had the opportunity to practice the application of the related knowledge and skills in the nursing laboratories.

  • Students' eligibility for Clinical Practicums will depend on their satisfactory performance with passing grade in related subject(s).

  • All clinical instructors and clinical mentors must attend
    Clinical Orientation Workshop before clinical supervision.

Program Curriculum

Clinical Practicum Arrangement

Total of 44 weeks clinical practicum is designed to facilitate students' skills integrating, consolidating, and applying their clinical knowledge and skills in different clinical settings.


Year 1

Semester 1: Clinical Practicum I (total 11 weeks). Note: Basic Nursing Care Assessment*

Semester 2: Clinical Practicum II (total 11 weeks). Note: AT or AOM Assessment*


Year 2

Semester 1: Clinical Practicum III (total 11 weeks). Note: AT or AOM Assessment*

Semester 2: Clinical Practicum IV (total 11 weeks). Note: AT or AOM Assessment*

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. The NCHK’s Minimum Entry Requirements for Training of Enrolled Nurses: (i) Applicants with Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination results: Completion of Form 5 or equivalent (e.g. Yi Jin Diploma); or (ii) Applicants with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) results: Achieved Level 2 or above in 5 Examinations subjects, including Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics, in addition to two other passed subjects in Categories A and B, or equivalent; and

  2. Be at least 18 years of age before entry to the programme; and

  3. Passed an admission interview. 

Accreditation

Date of Commencement: November 2022


Higher Diploma in Enrolled Nursing (General) is accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications for a period from November 2022 to October 2025 (three years).
