Programme Objectives

The Higher Diploma in Health and Rehabilitation Services programme is a two year full time program that aims to provide an opportunity for students to acquire professional training and a broad foundational knowledge and skills in relevant healthcare disciplines including nursing, community health, and rehabilitation services. Upon the completion of the first year of the programme, students will be eligible for registration as health workers with the Social Welfare Department.

Career Prospects

Upon the completion of the first year of this higher diploma programme (both theory and clinical) which covers the Health Worker Training Course, the Specification of Competency Standards, and the correspondent Unit of Competency specified by the Social Welfare Department for the elderly service industry, students will be eligible to apply to be registered as health workers.

  • Year 1 of the 3-year Bachelor of Nursing offered by Avondale University College, Australia.

  • Year 2 of the 2+3 Bachelor of Science in Nursing offered by Andrews University, USA.

  • Year 2 of the Bachelor of Science in Public Health offered by La Sierra University, USA.

  • Year 2 of the Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology offered by Andrews University, USA

  • Year 2 of the Doctor of Physical Therapy offered by Andrews University, USA

Admission Requirements

  1. Level 2 in five subjects* in Hong Kong Diploma in Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination including Chinese Language and English Language, or equivalent; or

  2. Have successfully completed accredited Qualification Framework Level 3 Foundation Diploma; or

  3. Satisfactory completion of the Diploma Yi Jin Programme; or

  4. Mature applicants (aged 21 or above) with a minimum of two years of related working experience may be considered on an individual basis upon passing an admission interview; and

  5. Passed an admission interview

able to:

  1. Demonstrate competency in basic caring and communication skills necessary for working in the field of health and rehabilitation services.

  2. Understand the fundamental knowledge of health and rehabilitation sciences as well as ethical issues related to the health care fields.

  3. Display positive attitude and a personal goal for continuing lifelong learning.

  4. Equip with necessary generic skills, including languages, information technology, interpersonal communication, reasoning skills, and the ability to learn effectively.

Career Prospects

Graduates from this programme will have the foundational knowledge in healthcare and rehabilitation services needed to be employed as assistants and health workers in various healthcare settings. Intended career pathways include health workers, health care officers, programme workers, rehabilitation assistants, and administrative executives in a variety of healthcare settings.
