Overview

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Pre-Licensure)
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Pre-Licensure) program prepares students for a career in professional nursing; it is approved by the Michigan Board of Nursing, and has full accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

The program focuses on the provision of care and the promotion of health for individuals and families through classroom and laboratory experiences in a variety of settings. Students will gain strong and varied clinical experiences through hospital and community agencies.

The program provides a complete spectrum of professional study, as well as a general education in the arts, humanities, and sciences. The program can be completed in eight to ten semesters of full-time study, with 65 nursing credits needed for completion. Through coursework and hands-on experience students are given the background needed to pass the nationwide examination for the licensing of nurses provided by National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) in the United States.

2 years Pre-Nursing Program in Hong Kong
Through the completion of the first two years pre-nursing program at Hong Kong campus, students will be able to gain English language competency and pre-nursing knowledge that are needed to succeed in the bachelor degree nursing program at AU. Upon the completion of the pre-nursing program, students are expected to:
• Successfully pass the college level English language proficiency requirement;
• Have acquired the foundational knowledge, skills, and professional values for entering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at AU;
• Achieve an accumulative GPA of  3.0 or above in all 4 semesters; and
• Demonstrate critical and creative thinking for continuous professional training and lifelong learning.

Career Prospects

Graduates with a registered nurse license may practice in a variety of healthcare settings such as hospitals, outpatients clinics, schools, home healthcare services, and nursing care facilities. Those who want to advance their education or complete specialized training may obtain a master's degree in nursing to become a nurse practitioner, nurse anesthetist, nurse midwife, or clinical nurse specialist. Graduates may choose to pursue a master's or doctoral degree in nursing, education, public health, social science, and health service management etc.

Admission Requirements

1. Hong Kong Diploma in Secondary Education (HKDSE)
    Level 3 in English and Chinese Language
    Level 2 in Mathematics and Liberal Studies
    Level 2 in an elective subject

2. 12-year High School Graduate
    Overall GPA 2.50

3. Diploma in Pre-University Studies
    Successful completion with a Graduating GPA of 2.25

4. Other equivalent internationally recognized examination result
    Such as IB, ACT/SAT, GCE A-level

Students who do NOT meet the minimum requirements may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

English Language Proficiency:
Students who score below Level 3 in English Language in HKDSE or Below IELTS 6.5/TOEFL IBT 80, are required to complete and pass the English Language Program.
