PROGRAM

Join our 6-week Summer Intensive Program with a 3-day field trip in China and an optional 7-day learning tour in China. Students may earn up to 6 semester credits. The Summer Intensive Program is scheduled from Jun 15 to July 21, 2010. All University Business students are welcome. The courses being offered in the summer of 2010 are:

COURSE DESCRIPTION

IDSC294 Introduction to Chinese Culture (3 credits)

Intensive three-week foundation course in Chinese Culture. The course is designed especially for non-Chinese speaking students who plan to go on a trip to China. Topics include a brief history of China, Chinese philosophy and religions, Chinese culture, politics and economy of Modern China. It also covers fundamental conversational skills of Mandarin and simple Chinese Calligraphy.
Lectures: 35 hours plus 10 hours practicum.
Prerequisite: NIL
Pre-assigned reading: Not applicable

BSAD 397 Topics in Doing Business In China (3 credits)

Intensive three-week foundation course in Doing Business in China. The course covers the topics of (i) Historical and political overview of China, (ii) Chinese business and economic environment, (iii) Chinese cultural values and attitudes in the workplace, (iv) Management and working styles for doing business in China, (v) Chinese business communication and negotiation styles, and (vi) Challenges and solutions for doing business in China.
Lecture: 30 hours plus a 3-day (2-night) Field Trip in Southern China and 5 hours of group work.

3-DAY GUANGDONG TOUR, CHINA

Students will visit some factories in Shenzhen, Dongguan and Guangzhou, including as the biggest HONDA factory in the world. There will be time for sight-seeing.

7-DAY CHINA CULTURAL TOUR

Students will go to Shanghai with visits to Shanghai Expo, Motor Car Factory and sight-seeing.


TUITION FEE

Students are free to join Summer Intensive Program Category A (with Shanghai Cultural Tour) or Category B (without Shanghai Cultural Tour) with options of studying one course (Plan A1, A2, B1 or B2) or two courses (Plan A or B) as shown as follows:


Remarks:
1. All courses are to be conducted in English.
2. Students who register for two courses will get a subsidy on a round trip air ticket (economy class) from U.S. to Hong Kong by redemption of maximum “US$1,000”.
3. A 7-day China Tour to Shanghai (EXPO2010) to be organized by Hong Thai Tour Company (License No.: 350070).
4. Students are responsible for applying for their own visa to enter China. Students may apply for a two-entry visa to enter China through China Travel Service (HK) Ltd in Hong Kong or through the Chinese Embassy in the USA.
